Farewell to a True Gentleman

Ray GoodwinWe at 979fm were saddened today to hear of the passing of one of our most valued members, Ray Goodwin. He passed away quietly after a long illness and our sincerest sympathies go out to his family.

He was a valued member at our radio station presenting his weekly radio program on behalf of the Bacchus Marsh branch of the Royal Andaluvian Order of Buffaloes. Each Tuesday afternoon he would come to the station regardless of how he felt to present his 2 hour program of music and information for the lodge.

Despite his failing health in recent times he was always bright and cheerful and eager to do his show. A “dicky” heart meant he had to have his medication to hand at all times but this never deterred him. He was always in extremely good humour, and it seems that nothing could keep him away from his “buffs”, who always tuned in to the program.

As well as his program on 979fm he was a regular on Bacchus marsh 98.5 Apple FM. He will be missed at 979fm by all those who knew him and formed a relationship with him. He never uttered a word of criticism of any of his colleagues at the station and was always encouraging.

Our station was a brighter and happier place for his presence. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time.

  1. I will miss tuning into the radio and listening to my Pop’s voice, it is what kept him going and he loved doing his radio shows very much! I will be definitely listening to his tribute show today! Love you Pop xo

  2. Many thanks for all those kind words and lovely thoughts about my dad. He loved his radio shows and loved playing his music for everyone to enjoy. It was an absolute pleasure in the last few months to help dad to continue to be able to still do his shows. My mum would listen to him without fail every week. Many thanks to everyone xxxxx
